The Coronation of King Charles III
On Saturday 6 May 2023, King Charles III will be formally crowned as the new King of the UK. What will this mean for employers on Coronation Day?
Coronation Day is not technically going to be a bank holiday, with Monday 8 May being the bank holiday date instead. This means that although legally the day will be treated as a normal working Saturday (please refer to your contract(s) of employment), employers may have decisions to take, regarding opening hours and staffing, given that staff and customers’ situations may be different for that day.
We have already posted regarding Monday 8th (see here) and how an employer would have to review their situation.
If you have any concerns regarding your business’ employees plans for the weekend of the Coronation, we suggest that you speak to us as soon as possible so that you can make timely decisions. We also have access to the Croner Taxwise HR advice lines which can be a good resource for employers.
